I suspect that these are the units available as SF-18 from the Hong Kong source.

I have two of them. I took one of my CPE4s apart and looked inside. Also took one of the HK units apart. The battery trays are interchangable, that's how compatible they are.

The biggest difference is the Canon unit has shielding around the circuit board and the HK unit does not.
That's probably why the HK unit has a reputation for "buzzing". Mine make a faint sound while they are charging the Flash. The sound goes quiet when the flash shows full charge.

I think Lon is one of the best and most reliable sources for flash accessories, I think this is a great source for what I have found to be a good alternative to the Canon device.

I bought a PC cord and a Canon adapter from him and they work perfectly and were shipped the same day.

My only issue with Lon is that he keeps finding reasons for me to spend money. I guess that is what makes Lon a good entrepreneur...thanks Lon. :)

Pretty boring. Look just like the pictures. ;)

I don't have enough of the same batteries to power these up right now as this was an unexpected purchase. They seem to be sturdy enough.

I have heard 3rd party batteries are active when the flash batteries are dying and not to supplement the on flash batteries. I wonder if this is the case

I highly doubt it. Otherwise, the recycling time would not be significantly reduced. These battery packs provide high voltage to the flash so the juice is going directly to the flash capacitor and do not kick in and substitute for the internal batteries when they (internal batteries) get depleted.

I ordered one and it came in this morning. It's a Yongnuo which seems to make great knock off's of Canon accessories.

I also have a CP-E4, so I visually inspected them first. Besides the labeling, they are pretty much identical. The only difference was I couldn't interchange the battery trays between them. Not a big deal, but would be nice. All the included items were also functionally identical to the CP-E4.

Performance wise, it delivered. I was able to fire off a series of 4 shots rapidly and then another series of 3 a few seconds later. That is how I would normally shoot, so that's what I tested.

Definitely a good buy. Now time to sell the genuine CP-E4 at the fair market price before others discover this pack. lol.
