Hi all, my friend wanna sell his underused 1Ds Mark II, shutter count around 20k and he said it is in minty condition. He will let it go around US$2500> Do you guys think that it is a reasonable price?

Other than that, I wanna now, how long can it (1dsmark2's shutter) last? I am using a Nikon D700 now and I am really really envy Canon color that is the reason of why I wanna jump ship to the 1DsM2

Yea your friend is a few months too late for $2500. I'd say $2200 for a quick sale or $2300 otherwise. (Assuming it has the box and everything that was in it, too.)

The 1DS2 did have some shutter issues where they were prone to fail early (before 40k I think has been the norm) and replaced by Canon. There is a small chance that one might still fail early but then a better chance it will live to its normal life.

Here's one more from the airshow. I like vapor on the wings...and always look to get those shots, but, I don't have many from this venture.

I've never held a 70-200 f/2.8L IS, so, I can't tell ya for sure. The 400 5.6L isn't that bad, at all, in terms of weight. I've had it for a few years...and it's always been a nice one to use (for birds, planes, etc).

This was the first time I was out and about with the 400 + 1.4x (love the fact that it autofocuses), and the weight wasn't all that bad. Luckily, I had enough Sunshine to keep the shutter speeds up, at f/8 - f/11, and slower, at times.

Took some getting used to, for me, since it was the first time I really used AI Servo with this much weight and AF (did I mention how cool that was?) . I got a lot of crappy shots, but, that's my own fault. The camera and lens + TC combo does really well (as long as there's lots of light). I'll have to try it on a cloudy day, and see how it stacks up.

overload with work, however I dont seem to cash in... took my 7d for a spin and its totally useless as Apple have not updated the codecs. so what i did i toook the 5d2 and used it the day after and aperture told me it dont support m-raw....... thing is I wanted smaller raw files.

So in the end I have 2 new cameras and the 1ds is the work horse..... !!! Bloody annoying though as i Shot a big even and wanted the fps of the 7d but be able to edit them in aperture. I know DPP will but I hate to break my workflow....

I"m still trying to learn everything about the 1Ds2. Screwed up the WB the other day, but, luckily the grey card and color checker saved my arse. I still haven't gotten to those pictures...though, I will probably start tonight. Here comes the fun... *sigh*

So I'm looking at buying a 1DSMKII as I'm moving into FF. Having used the MKIIn I have grown to like the ability to save RAW to the CF card and save jpegs to the SD card. The 1DS MKII does not have this facility. Is anyone aware if this can be altered in the firmware?

There's no firmware updates or hacks that will address that issue, AFAIK.

But you can record raws and jpegs at the same time and not that difficult to separate them in post by sorting the file by type.

Good luck in your search for a decently priced used one...shouldn't be too hard to find.

To my knowledge , even with firmware it cannot be changed the duak cards only lets you use either as a master and the other as a backup.
