Waiting to buy a lens for H3DII-39, and some accessories for my film cameras, and a lighting head.

nah, i wanna know how wide open these were shot, they're remarkably sharp.

At that size you can make just about anything look sharp... indoor sports images tend to look less than perfect at full size. :)

I had the 1.8 version also, and I still think the 1.8 is a better tool for this application. My keeper rate with the 1.8 was higher.

I have decided to get a 1DMkIII, but I am not sure what to buy as to Blue dot , high serial number, Canon fix or no need for the mirror fix, etc. What should I be looking for in the 1DMkIII to assure me of getting one that AFs in Al Servo , I take BIF and sports too. Buying used I need some input from the people who know...Thanks ...Rich

Do you mean like 58xxxx The problem ones were 54xxxx I think? What was blue dot , yellow dot etc? Was that the original production color on the box or did it mean after mirror fix/firmware update?

mine is a blue dot, 55xxxx SN.. i do not notice any af issues on ai-servo so i never sent it in. i just upgraded the firmware. i believe canon will check the camera even if the sn does not fall in the affected SN range.

Rich, same info I linked for you over on FM, but will repeat here in case someone else can use this info. Here's a quote from that link that tells you what serial numbers are affected:

If the serial number on the bottom of the camera is between 501001 and 546561, it could be affected by the AF mirror adjustment problem, with the exception of cameras with the following serial numbers (click here) which were manufactured with an updated mirror mechanism. (Additionally, all EOS-1D Mark III cameras with serial numbers higher than 546561 have been manufactured with the updated mirror mechanism.)

Here is the full link: http://www.usa.canon.com …999&keycode=2112&id=39707 (external link)

If you are buying a unit that is above that serial number range, it should have already had the fix prior to leaving the facility to be sold. If buying one from within the affected range, the seller should be able to provide you with a receipt showing that Canon repaired the unit. If he/she cannot provide this receipt, but says the fix was done, then get the serial number and call Canon to see if they can provide you an answer about that specific unit. If you cannot verify the fix was done on a unit within the serial number range, purchase at your own risk (ie. you MAY need to send it in to Canon to get the fix).

I say just get it and if there's an issue send it in. That's what I did back in June...it was sent in for the March service notice. I may send it back before the 6 month warranty is up just for one last check up.

Btw, Adorama has a refurbished one for sell: http://www.adorama.com ….html?searchinfo=1d+mkIII (external link)

If you buy from Adorama, don't forget to try the Bing.com cashback deal. I think I remember looking at this very link above and the Bing.com cashback was something like 6% or so, which would be a $168 discount.
