The only lens I have at the moment is the 17-55. Right now I'm up in the air on whether I should pick up a UWA such as the Tokina 11-16 or a 580ex II strobe. We all know that the Tokina is hard to find these days and having a flash is also useful. So what you guys think would be handy at the moment. Should I pick up the lens or the flash? Thanks in advance

You need light or you need UWA? Only you'd know. Either is good.

By the way, I'm new to Texas, just got to Dallas this week. What exactly is a Texas Pancake?

Get both like I did. hehe

Actually, now that I have the 11-50 range covered, I'm wanting something longer.
I think an 85mm will be my next lens, even though I want a 70-200.

You'll get to a restaurant and the menu will say 'Texas Pancake', you will ask the waiter what it is because you were told it didn't exist. They will point to a large circle on the wall and say it's that big ;)

get the flash first, but if you're getting both anyways, why does it matter which you get first?

It's all about the light. A flash is the only piece of gear that I would contend will instantly improve your photography.

Without question, get a flash first.

If you must know...

If you ever use the pop up flash, then your answer is 580EXII. It will do more for your images. UWA are vey nice to have and useful, but only you will know how much will actually use it.

Well, I'd actually argue a tripod before a flash, but that's me. Also the OP didn't mention tripods, so I'll shut up. ;)
