UWA or Flash?

how difficult was it to learn the 580ex II since I don't have any prior experience with external flash. do you guys have any tips or learning material i can check out?

580s and 430s are about the same learning curve at least initially.

I have had a Tokina since june and have used it rarely. I got a flash last week and have used it everyday. I think you will get more use out of a flash, but it is really fun to have a UWA

The only lens I have at the moment is the 17-55. Right now I'm up in the air on whether I should pick up a UWA such as the Tokina 11-16 or a 580ex II strobe. Get either one.... it sounds like it's just a matter of time before you get the other

Now that I think of it, I got the flash first due to availability of the Tokina also.

Get the one available to you now and start using it.

580EXII...the pop-up flash just won't cut it...and you deserve the best, right?

I would go for the flash! My pictures came out more nicely with a flash.
You can always crop for now..

Thanks you guys! I appreciate all the responses. Seems like everyone would go for the flash. Just curious what diffusors would you recommend? A lot of people have a issues with Gary Fong products. LOL

I'm in the same dilemma should i get a sigma UWA of a 580EX II next month.
I know I'll be using a UWA a lot this summer for nature shots. The trouble is that i find it hard to get excited about having an external flash.
A flash feels like when i spent roughly 300$ on a new power unit for my computer, it didn't do anything by itself but it was vital to put more other hardware into the computer.

Well atleast the 580 is the best and i should have the best, and it will intimidate compact users. That's some consolation.

Oh and tripod definatley comes before a flash, iId say it comes even before DSLR.

What do you do? If you are indoors a lot, the flash will be better IMO. If you are taking pictures outside a lot, a UWA might suit you better at the moment.
