A few months ago, I came across an article in WIRED magazine that had an Abilene, Texas byline. It was about Bruce Townsley, who had bought a decommissioned Atlas-F missile silo near Oplin, TX and converted it into a comfortable living space. A few weeks back, I had the opportunity to head out to his silo to take some pictures and do a write-up for the local paper. You can see more of the pics, and links to the story on my photoblog.

Talk about curb appeal, this series really shows you what you're living in with one of these places. I've seen other examples of silos being turned into a home. Looks like he has more work to do.
I love the B&W conversion of these.

Chas- click over to my photoblog to see how he's actually converted the launch control center into his home. It's very swanky, and not at all like the rest of the silo.

A very nice series Greg. I have to wonder what he plans to do with that huge area below? Storage?
And a seventy five ton door? WOW!

The Captain and crew finally got their stuff together, now if we can only remember where we left it.

Hmmm....

Wonder how much they'd let the one south of Tucson go for?

Nice documentary work.

I saw a tv show about one that had been converted a long time ago. I have been wanting one ever since.

That 75 ton door keeps creapy vacumn salesmen away! :D

Nice blog Greg. That's why I said I liked the B&W conversions. The color version of the tunnel shot isn't as good as the B&W. The art of printing B&W is going away. Not too many folks print images in B&W anymore.

In addition to the 75-ton door, the military-grade security gate *inside* the regular looking exterior gate marked with "No Trespassing" signs are equally effective!
