Just reading a 7D review on the news website... "Essentially, the 7D is a semi-professional camera with enough modes, customisable settings and extras to make you look like a thorough professional."

Reminds me of a lady I saw with a market stall at Apollo Bay selling her photos telling people that she's a pro and uses "the landscape" setting on her camera as she doesn't believe in digitally altering her photos, pfft.

Yeah, you gotta watch out for those digitally altered pictures, I got bitten by one once :P

Hi strangers......smee again.

Without reading the whole thread I guess you want a fast lens....

I have used an 85L 1.2 and it was fast and very sharp in the middle (was very bad for shots of the sky BTW) but I couldn't justify the expense over a 50L 1.2 when all I had to do was take two steps forward - just my thoughts .

Wow, long time no hear Peter!

I don't like the slight distortion of the 50mm lenses compared to the short telephoto length of an 85mm. I've used both the 50/1.2L and the 85/1.2L and prefer the 85. I'd really like a 200/2L, but that's way out of the price bracket.

BTW, how's my guitar...?

I had some fun today............

While pottering around, generally doing nothing the phone rang, and as I was next to the cordless one, I grabbed that one.

Turns out it was some guy from India trying to sell me a mobile phone / data plan, that also came with a free mobile phone and also a free laptop.

He spent the first two minutes trying to figure out if I already had a mobile phone :D !!

"Do you already have a mobile phone ?"
"You called me on my house line..."
"But do you already have..............
"This is not a mobile phone, I'm at home...........

After a couple of minutes I got bored of that, so I asked about the mobile 'phone he was going to give me..............
I don't think that he's ever played 50 questions before :D ...............

Then I moved onto the laptop..........

"How big is the screen ?"
"I'm not sure"
"Can you find out?"
"Sure, Back in a couple of minutes"
(I think he said it was a 7" screen)
"And how big is the HDD?"
"I'm not sure"
"Can you find out?"
"Sure, Back in a couple of minutes"
"It's 4 Gb"
"Is that a memory HDD or a rotating HDD ?"
"I'm not sure"
"Can you find out?"
"Sure, Back in a couple of minutes"
"Yes, it has a 4Gb HDD"

*Rinse / repeat

Hey, Killed about 20 minutes of my time before I said "No, I'm not interested", also kept him busy not earning commission for that time, and neither was he bothering anyone else !!

I've got a new hobby :D :D :D :D !!!

Austen.

I just want to take nice photographs of people.

I note that she didn't say she was a "Pro" photographer! Maybe she was some other kind of Pro.:)

Either it sold or was removed, 'cause I couldn't find it. (or I'm not awake enough to read yet)

Ok, now right off the bat I know you're gonna say "that's a big ask . . .
the thing is, next Wednesday I've been asked to shoot photos of a 'graduation day' for the AEIOU centre that one of my boys attends. The pictures will be added to a collection from the whole year and presented to parents on cd. They recently had more formal school photos taken by Rachel Richter, which neither I, nor some other parents, were overly impressed with. I would like to deliver the best pics I can and to this end I am asking about the possible loan of a fast zoom ( ie; 70-200 f/2.8 ) for the day. I certainly understand anyones reluctance to hand over some good glass to just anybody, I was exploring this avenue before the hiring option as it will not be a paid gig.
thanks for any consideration you may give this . . .
