The OP seems to be confused about the difference between the 1DsMkIII and the 1DMkIII. It was the 1DMkIII that caused all the panic because some had a problem with focusing in some circumstances. This led to a large number of threads with titles like "My MkIII problems" and "Just got my MkIII and it has the problem" etc. The posters of THOSE threads also didn't seem aware that there was also a MkIII of the 1Ds series. As a result, there are folks who think all MkIII cameras have problems. Canon would be wise not to call the next 5D the 5DMkIII - everyone will avoid it :)

I did get confused. :o At any rate, imo, the whole MkIII or IV or whatever line is tainted. Too confusing and advanced amateurs like myself will probably avoid the entire line. Thanks for the comments though, very interesting.

advanced amateurs! LOL! what does that mean?
1ds = full frame
1d = 1.3 crop.

I have both, mine work flawless, i've had lots of 1d III's, all worked flawlessly. Too much hysteria and bad internet hype surrond these cameras.

I would bet as an "advanced amateur" if you picked up one of these beasts, you'd never want to put it down.

Well, I would define an advanced amateur as somebody who does more than take snapshots of the family. Somebody who attends photo seminars, who can intelligently discuss RAW, somebody who makes a real effort to take quality pictures, somebody who is comfortable with using different apertures, shutter speeds, learning new techniques etc. But who isn't a professional, and does not use photography to pay the mortgage. And you are correct, I'd probably never want to put it down, so I don't dare pick it up.:)

And yes, if you read the internet stories, you would think the cameras are absolute junk because the photographers who don't have problems aren't posting problems and horror stories. But where there is smoke, there is fire. Not trying to belittle the 1D series, just posted a "what if" question. Someday, I'm going to treat myself to the top of the line Canon but by that time, it'll probably be the Mk VII. :lol:

1Ds4 32MP...

What do you think... will it be 30MP+?

The res of the 1Ds has always been around twice the res of the 1D so do we think the new 1Ds4 is going to be in the dizzy heights of the 30's?

Probably, but I'd rather see improvements in other areas. Like ISO performance.

They're not mutually exclusive.

Indeed. There will likely be improvements that surpass the 7d.

God, I hope not. If they kept it similar to the 5D2, I think it would be ideal.

File sizes are already large enough.

Did you miss big blue dodge's (I think) thread about needing powerful computers for these cameras? :cool:

Most definatly... if you upscale the sensor in the 7D to FF its a whopping 46.5MP...!!!

Dual D4 processors would mean it would only be able to shoot at 3 fps so i think 28MP is looking about right to keep the 5fps.
