Anyone have a tips for the 50mm...what are your favorite things to do with it? Perfect settings for it?

Wow, that's a great image! I'm getting this lens aswell this week. Everyone seems to say it's at its sharpest at F2.8 and higher ;) Try that.

Happy Birthday, btw :P

Here's one today with my daugther Olivia

QUOTED IMAGE

Very nice -- and what a cute girl! I have a few pictures of my daughter against a wood fence, too. I just like the texture a lot. :)

Nice Shots Ashley, you'll enjoy this lens, you'll get nice portriats and closeup headshots with it, just beware the auto focusing tends to hunt at times, enjoy it though.

Love the shot with the dogs.

Notice you played with the shutter speed on both water pic's, I love the water softness effect very nice

Thanks Kristin, she is my little model, she's my model when I want to try different things out with settings and lighting and such. This was done yesterday and she was very patient with me so it got her chocalate bar :)

I use Lightroom a lot right now and just brightened it bit and sharpened, I like how it came out too thanks again

Ashley, when I say hunt sometimes it takes a while before the auto focus locks in on the subject, it will just keep turning before it kicks in, which means sometimes that great shot you want to take of the kids will be gone before it focuses. Also it's not the greatest in low light IMO

Oh..Ok I understand
I was under the understanding that the 50mm was good in low light?

It normally is, but mine just isn't trustworthy for me at night time, mind you I get impatient fast so I switch lenses when I don't get the results I'm looking for. Now that being said I haven't used it since I picked up my flash, hmmmm maybe time for an experiment with my daughter

Again Ashley this is my opinion, so take it at the lowest setting :)

Enjoy your new lens

I agree, my copy of the 50mm is pretty bad at autofocus after dark unless I can find some kind of high contrast line in the same plain of view as my subject. The lens is great because of the low aperture, but if you can get good at manual focus, your ability to get good night shots will improve.

Just went out to take some night shots myself, actually. The second I get out the door, the entire sky is lit up pink. Only downside is I need to walk 10 minutes to get the shot I want. By the time I get there, no more pink sky. Dammit. Didn't wear gloves either, which was a huge mistake. Ugh, so pissed.

Maybe I'll go back out anyway. A nice, dark, cloudy night.

Do you have a link to the one you're buying?

It's pretty cheap right here: http://www.amazon.com …Camera-Lens/dp/B00007E7JU (external link)

You can get em used, but usually for not much less than that.

I'm borrowing mine on permanent loan from a friend who has more lenses than he needs.... :)
