Hey guys and gals; from my first wedding shot solo. Please be brutal and honest with these. And BTW; the groom likes the PS 'yellowed' look.

I just posted 2? Can I post more?

Thanks!

Chris

Yes you can post a few more.

I find the lighting to be flat in the first one. But the DOF is great.

By yellow, you mean sepia?...

Thank you both.

I did WB throughout the shoot, he wanted the photos to have an 'artistic approach' in development. Prior to post, the whites look bright and even.

Not really 'sepia' more like 'warmer'. He wanted a vintage look but leaner towards dramatic. I guess a little hard to explain. I was trying to mimic the old Polaroid look. I miss those!

How do these look now knowing that? Thanks!

This is off-topic, but I was going to mention I love the length of her dress. It's non-traditional in a traditional kind of way!

I really loved her dress. Very 60's. My mom wore a dress very similar to this.

I like the first one you posted in the second post, but his head is chopped off a little.

I wanted it chopped a little, but maybe I didn't crop enough for it to fall under 'edgy'? Crop more? Not at all?

Thanks again guys.

Some nice images there, pp seems a tad random to me though,

I think the other thing worth mentioning is that all your images seem to be different crop ratios which could cause you problems later on when it comes to delivering standard sized prints to the client or fulfilling print orders.

If you want to post creatively crop images then its a good idea to stick to the standard ratio it was shot in unless you are specifically creating a different sized shot like a pano.

I was trying to get a feel for what the client wanted with regards to PP. I have done some random stuff though :D

And this is not the 'print set'. I do two types of files; those for digital viewing and others for print. These are from the digital set.

If you don't mind, I'd like to comment on them in order. I've numbered them in the order they were posted:

#1 - Composition is good. They're both looking in the same direction and it sort of makes you wonder what they're looking at. It's their secret! Vignetting is very strong, but in light of what the groom wants, that probably works. Watch the crop on the bouquet. Also, be careful with your focus when working with a DOF this thin...note the very sharp carnation in focus which is kind of a nice effect, but it's in better focus than the couple

#2 - There's really nothing stand-out about this picture

#3 - Love it! B&W conversion is good. Be careful with blown highlights in the dress.

#4 - Again, well composed, love the detail in the veil, and the dress is better exposed this time, without as much blowing out of the highlights. Depth of field is a slight problem again, though, as the left edge of the bushes is super-sharp. In portraits like these, the people don't have to be razor-sharp, especially if that's the effect that you're going for, but then the bushes shouldn't be razor-sharp either.

#5 - Also magnificent. And as an added inside bonus, I can see a guest with an SLR on the left, LCD lit, and what appears to be an 18-55IS? :D

#6 - Again, this is probably the "vintage" look that you did a good job of creating. I love how his eyes are on her; I normally wouldn't like that her eyes are looking down, but in this case, it's almost like she's following the literal AND figurative "path" that they're on. Only critique would be to watch the crop of the hands.

Overall - some very nicely captured images. I would not post #2, however. Like Jonwhite said, some of the PP is random...perhaps when you post your final "album" of these shots online, group some of the similarly processed images together? It would look a little more consistent that way. Well done overall!

You'll stop that once a client requests a digital crop in print...

People ask for what they see, and don't understand the technicalities of print sizes, so it's a good idea to at least stick to "produceable" sizes at least... but i proof everything at 2:3 ratio. If an image needs to be cropped randomly to make it work, it's not a keeper....

Doc, Rob; thank you so much for the critique. I will definitely make adjustments and I agree with the cropping, now that you mention that.

And thanks to everyone that put in their input too. I really appreciate it!!!!
