On Saturday I will be working with (more like watching really) the power company installing a new transformer outside our work building. Weather is supposed to be cloudy. I have the kit lens that I will be using for most of it. Any suggested settings? I'll be putzing with the 1.8 / 50mm as well, but for the wide shots of the crane and all that the kit will be in use.

How did you get it so clear with a 1/25 shutter speed? Super steady hands?

You guys every get tired of people bashing the XS? If I had a buck for everytime someone on this forum called the XS a cheap POS camera, I'd upgrade to a 1Dmk4.

How do we survive with only 1.5fps RAW anyway?

I sure as hell do! And what's more irritating is that most of these bashers haven't even held an XS, let alone use it.

Yes. The latest XS vs. XSi thread is a decent example (all of these threads are anyway.. people seem to believe the XSi is worlds better than the XS which is just laughable, but I won't really get into that). But yeah I notice it in real life, too, which is even more annoying. Just encourages me to learn more and get out more and show people what the camera can do (and the person behind it, but that's another story and a bit of a work in progress ;). I've also noticed a lot of the people that downplay it also own higher end cameras and can easily just compare XS specs with say the XSi and T1i and completely write it off. But whatever, doesn't change my opinions on it at all. I'm glad I chose the XS and have zero regrets about not choosing the XSi instead.

One thing I will note, though, is how cheap it feels. I realize this is a no brainer, but I notice this more every time I use it. Anyway, doesn't change the quality of my pictures so it's not a huge gripe.

The software that comes bundled with the camera is pretty good. Easier to use than Photoshop with great results. You can also download Gimp which is close to Photoshop but free.

Either way, I don't think the pic needs anything, looks great.

Thanks everyone! I will be shooting somemore tonight. It is Full Moon now and weather is still beautiful. I will adjust some settings and buy a tripod today as well to help stabilize the camera.

Lucky you. All I've had is clouds and rain for the last week or two. Bring on the snow, at least that'll be something new to shoot.

I will admit I am often tempted to upgrade the XS. I really do feel like I would benefit from a faster continuous RAW capture rate and a bigger viewfinder.

But the thing that keeps me on the XS is the size and weight. I like to go hiking, backpacking, cycling, etc. with my camera, and I would much rather do those activities with the XS than with a bulky 50D or better.

You know I didnt even realise i shot them that quick, thought I was on 1/60 so i guess i was just lucky.

Thinking about it that was took with the non IS 18-55mm. I traded it in a few days later for the IS version. :D
