XSI shutter button stopped working?!

So my XSI is about 6 months old. Somewhere around 4000 pictures. I was taking pictures today 2 went just fine, the third didn't do anything. My camera won't recognize the shutter button is being pushed. When I'm in the menus and hit the button nothing happens. No auto focus and no actuation. I tried 'back button focusing' in hopes that it might fix the problem some how...but no luck. I have the warranty and all that, but it is deep in a storage locker. I don't have the receipt. I called Canon and they said to send it in for repair and include the warranty/receipt. I can't get to the warranty card...at least not for a couple months.

What should I do? I don't want to wait, but I don't want to pay for any repairs.

Where did you get it from? If you bought it online you might be able to reprint your invoice.

I would make Canon pay the shipping.

Have you tried removing batteries, etc? Sounds like a mechanical failure of the button but still worth trying everything else first...

I bought it from Wal-Mart. I received an email from Canon saying that I had to pay all shipping and handling to get it there and they will ship it back.

I have tried everything, I switched lenses just in case the lens had something to do with it, I switched modes, and tried everything else I could think of.

Gonna have to send it in. They do want a copy of the receipt, but that is all you need. If you registered it with Canon in advance, that may be enough, too.

It often happens to me the button stops working, I just take out and put again the battery and it works
