What's a "shop one"? Does that mean gray market? What's the price difference?

I think that the 580ex II has a pretty good reliability record. Just make sure you use good batteries to avoid slow recycles, etc.

Yep..grey market ones. Supposedly the kit should comes with a international warranty but it doesn't. Price difference is around $70. No idea the difference is a justifiable ones..

eH, Canon warranty is only a year. I doubt your flash will ever fail you, let alone inside a year.

How much did you pay for it? Where did you buy it?

I would seriously cry if my 580EX II went out on me.

But the flash unit I have is more than a year old, and flashes as it should. This is my third speedlite and I'm very happy with the way they've held up. I think you should be fine, but you never know.

I can't imagine the price difference between a gray market and USA warranty to be that much. I would get the one with USA warranty and use a Credit Card that doubles the Canon warranty an additional year so you have a 2 year warranty. Almost all Amex's and most Mastercards have this feature.

You'll be fine mate - don't worry about it and get out and shoot some images with it!
