The bills are all covered by the wife's income, including the credit card debt, and the check I'm getting in January will more than cover the small amount of credit card debt we have. Also, if you're siding with the wife, she said yes to the purchase. And if you've read the thread, you'd know that I sell prints of my pictures, so it is more than just a hobby.

Good for you. Congrats on the camera. Bottom line, the two of you will know best.
I did read through your post. I was not quite clear what selling prints through fair entails, and what sort of income it generates. I have sold a few prints just by people asking for them after them seeing it hanging in my office, but I would still consider myself strictly as a hobbyist, as my total print sale has netted less than 1000 dollars, and I dont actively seek it, nor do I foresee any reliable income from it. The situation might be very different for you. to each his own.

Don't pussy-foot around: slap her on the behind and ask, "What's it gonna be - sex all weekend or a bargain camera?" She'll probably advise you to get a decent lens as well.

Yeah, that's not gonna work. My wife keeps track of the money to the last penny.

Boy.....did you dig yourself a hole!

Its a tough economy. If she is being tight with money, then sell something of yours to make up the money for the 20D. Small sacrafice to pay!

I could get a 1DMK IV and my wife would never notice.

Would she notice if you bought one for me?

And it will seem like such a long wait. (sorry)

Enjoy the camera, be sure to take a nice shot of your wife and post it here.

Take an underexposed, slightly OOF shot with the other camera and then a perfectly exposed shot with the new one so that she can see how much better the new one is.;)
