Um if you have cash to spare atm then fine, get your lens. Make sure you can afford diapers first. All this bad advice coming from men 'yes buy it!' tut tut, baby first, hobby second!

Do you want to take good pictures, or do you want to get the tokina?

If it's the first, check out the Hoff's gallery and listen to what he has to say.

Congrats to the OP. My wife also just gave birth to our first baby girl, which sort of makes the gear freak in me take a back seat. Still, I´m itching for a 430 flash to take some nice bounced flash shots indoor now that the sun sets at 2 pm here in the cold north...

I guarantee if you say "wide angle" and "pregnant" in the same sentence, you won't be getting any camera gear for a while. Or anything else for that matter.;)

HAHA :p

Here's what you do:
Start by telling her you "need" a macro lens to perfectly document the birth (in gruesome detail). Duck and dodge a few times and settle for an UWA.

Congrats on the good news!
I just went over " Lens lineup" thread, and you should get the 28 f/1.8 first. In your situation, the prime will exceed your expectations.

Well it will be easier to pull off a wide angles I bet then a long Zoom for that special day. Oh I was filling in the blank. LOL

She probably not going to be to hot on any close up shots on that day.

You can also tell her that she is going to get so FAT that you will need it to get her all in the shot, I would duck after that comment though.

Congrats

I want the tokina 11-16. She wont know the difference. Although it would be nice to have a decent prime with a 50mm crop equivalent for under $400 as well. :-)

Find a photo of a kid here and show her the picture and say "If you let me get this lens, I can do photos like this"

She'll see it, melt her heart and let you buy the lens. ;-)a

You actually think you're going to be standing there with a dslr while your wife is delivering a baby?

hahahahahahahaha

She's going to take one look at that camera and say, "put that D... thing away NOW!

It's a sensitive subject. When my wife told me she was pregnant, I was happy. We hugged and talked. It was exciting.

A week later I won a letter-of-the-month contest in a magazine and won a 400-dollar surfboard. I ran in the other room to tell my wife as I was jumping up and down (literally) with excitement.

She noticed one thing only: I jumped up and down with excitement.

You can probably guess what she said next.

Thank you. bw!

My C-section delivery shots taken while standing at the end of the operating table were at 42mm with my 28-75. Using my 11-16 would have been a problem. :)

When our daughter was born, it was all ready to go off to the side... and at one point my wife looked up and asked why I wasn't shooting already...
