Crop/clone that out and you have a nice, decorative Christmas shot. Not all images need to be 3x4 My name is Henk. and I believe "It is all in the eye of the beholder....."

I was under the impression this was the place to go when 'practicing' different techniques, not neccessarily posting only wall-hanging products. If we are not allowed to post snaphots for c&c we are all in trouble.

We are not sure what technique you were practicing but I agree that because of the composition - what you got was a snapshot. If you post in critique corner then it is silly to get upset if people critique your images.

Also, the subject doesn't pop more than it's surroundings which adds to the confusion. Easy way to help the viewer lead they're eye to the subject is to add some amount of vignetting. I'm merely pointing out the person who started this thread asked for comment on lighting and sharpness, not composition. The "snapshot" remark seemed to nitpick and that is not what the forum was intended to be either. I just wanted to show some support.

But I still hold that posting in this thread is (or should) be a genuine request for criticism and that is the only way we will improve as photographers. I believe that the "snapshot" comment related to the fact that not much thought had gone into the picture. I have had that comment leveled at some of my pictures in competitions and after discussion with the judge I discovered ways to make my pictures better. Another damning comment I have recieved in the past is "This is a lovely record shot". This also indicates not enough thought went into the picture before I took it
