7D Auto-Focus: What is the slowest lens it works with f/5.6 or f/8?

Does anyone know what the slowest lens the new 7D will retain auto-focus with? The Canon spec's just say double cross points @ f/2.8.

For example, with the 40D/50D/5D Mk II, they will only retain auto-focus with glass that's f/5.6 or faster (but the 1Ds & 1D series will auto-focus at f/8).

This is a big deal for me as I'd like to use a 1.4x TC on a 400mm f/5.6 lens and retain auto-focus without tapping pins on the TC.

Only the 1d series can auto focus at a f8 so the 400 f5.6 with the tc is not going to autofocus

Everything I can find shows all 19 points are cross-type with the center point f/2.8-sensitive and all others only up to f/5.6. Doesn't look like it will AF at f/8 like the 1D series will.

Isn't there a trick like taping a couple of the pins or something?

You can tape the pins and it will try to focus. Success is spotty and depending on what your shooting it may or may not achieve focus lock. I did find this pic of which pins to tape.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Thanks for the first-hand report.
Everything I could find only mentioned the f/2.8 cross-type points and that's it. Also, the latest Canon Lens Chart on the Canon USA website STILL doesn't list the 7D and 5D Mk II auto-focus comparability with tele-converters. With the radical auto-focus redesign of the 7D, I was hoping they had at least opened it up to work with f/8, but it evidently sounds like they're still holding that feature to the 1-series bodies.

It works at f/6.3 as well without issues, at least with my Sigma 50-500mm.

I believe that Sigma lenses continue to report 5.6 even though it's really f/6.3. At least that's what I've been told.

The maximum "minimum aperture" is 5.6, that is why the Sigma still works, the lens reports as an f/4-6.3 and 4 clears the requirement.
