Ok, so for the record, I didn't take these. They were done by one of my sister's friends in an attempt to get something to use for a senior slideshow next week.
My sister hasn't gotten her professional shots done yet, so this is the best we have to work with for now. Question is, how can I get the colors (preferably the water) to pop a little more? I'm terrible with image editing and I'm not even sure if it can be done with lower quality images.

It looks like every picture is Out of Focus. If you turn on your image editing, I'm sure someone on the forum will help you tweak the colors.

Thanks, I turned it on!
And yeah, when she gave them to me earlier I knew there wasn't much that could be done since they are so horribly out of focus. I just wish I had time to take some myself. :(

They don't look OOF to me. They were just taken with a point-n-shoot, so the image quality is horrible.

If they were RAWs you'd be able to put an exposure gradient on the water and turn it to lab color, apply image and the water would pop.

you obviously dont know much about image quality... point and shoot cameras can have amazing clarity and focus... dont rule a camera out because of its price tag.

Regardless of the camera, the images are crap and are also not very flattering...

If they are so unsharp after resizing there must be something wrong with the camera.

They are also very flat because the weather was overcast. A flash would have helped here as well.

I am sorry...

My suggestion Emily is for you to take her out today and take some more pictures. Post them on here and alot of us would be glad to help you out with them. These shots are really to poor to make them much better.

I just got my first pair of glasses that I didn't think I needed. I apologize to anybody in the past year that I said their pictures were out of focus lol.

Yeah as everyone has said, these are pretty hopeless. Even if you have a really short period of time with her, you could probably get something light years better.

I took one though just for fun and played with it for 5 min in Gimp . Result is attached.
