I've been debating on whether or not to post these. It's generally frowned upon to post assignment photos on teh internets but this was such an amazing event i've just gotta post em. Definitely one of the most insane things I have ever witnessed and i've seen some crazy stuff.
Most of these pictures were made with a 1d mark 3 at 6400asa, f 2.8, 640" shutter speed and a 70-200, the tight shots of Travis after the jump on the ramp were made with a 1d mark 2 @ 1600asa f2.8, 320" shutter speed with a 300 2.8. The shots of Travis on the Red Bull backdrop were made with a 1d mark 2, 400asa, f8, 100" shutter speed 24-70 lens.
I apologize for the low quality images. I posted them to my flickr account and people like to steal my work.

Awesome shots! I wish I could have stuck around for the jump. I happened to have gone down there that day, not expecting this event. I heard him making his practice runs up to the ramp as I walked out of the parking structure. I hung around for a few hours and got lots of pictures.

Some are here (although I did no PP on these) - https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=803801

Can I take your picture? "I'll swallow your soul!" Well, my camera will at least.

Nice captures, Pastrana is absolutely insane. I loved how he just backflipped off the ramp for fun!

Saw the video on Youtube last night and was wondering if any shots would be posted here. Great captures.

I was tracking him as he did that but I didnt react fast enough to him hitting the water. AP had him entering the water. Cool picture too.

As soon as he climbed onto the rescue boat after jumping into the water I beat feet and hauled ass back to the media tent to file. There was like 15,000 people out there on the island and the tent was seriously a 1/2 mile away. I was running through the crowds and they were taking pot shots at me. Ridiculous. When I went to transmit, I couldn't get out on my aircard because so many people were using cell phones that it was bogging down the network. I was finally able to get pictures out to the east coast papers that were holding on print. Just as I was about to leave, Travis's rep from Red Bull took the media out to the ramp and we made some pictures of him out there. It was a free for all on the ramp and so unorganized. I told Travis's manager who I was and what I needed and he was able to get me 1 minute of his time so I could get the obligatory posed shot against the red bull backdrop. Then another 1/4 mile sprint back to the media tent, quick edit, caption and transmit and I was on my way home by 10:30.

I was surrounded by huge expensive lenses, I even had one myself. I shot the whole thing with my 50D and an $80.00 50mm 1.8. That little lens is golden!
