Now that was posted so that I could ask this . . .
Asus netbook, received gratis, should it stay or should it go?
Will it prove useful for photography or just not have enough grunt to be of assistance?

Hmmm, dunno - Sam might be able to answer that one, as he has/had one.

Might be ok for tethered shooting ?

I've got a netbook (Acer Aspire One) and use it quite a bit for tethered shooting, controlling telescopes remotely, image download, light image editing etc. All good for that sort of thing. Just don't throw any serious number crunching at it - like stacking images, HDR maybe, games using lots of 3D/OpenGL type graphics. It's wonderfully compact and cheap to take on holidays to download photos and maybe do some editing. Just be aware of the screen resolution - they're typically 1024x600 max resolution and some applications (like DPP IIRC) require 1024x768 or better to run. You can install a free application that fools the netbook into thinking it has those higher resolutions, and the screen just scrolls up and down, but it's a pain in the neck to use extensively.

I got a netbook too running 10.6.2. Works pretty well with excellent battery life.

I pretty much use it as lightly as possible as well. Mostly remote admin stuff when the iphone just is WAY too small :p hehe...

Howdy strangers...

Thought I might drop in for a little out of state tax that is a little overdue...

Just a couple from a sunset last night: (before you ask, they were taken a few minutes apart - hence the major difference in colour ;))

Enjoy

I saw a couple of those in a camera store recently - really looked like plastic toys!

That first one is a bit of an optical illusion Scott, the darker clouds look like islands on a sea of red waves. Quite interesting really.

Very nice, I agree with Dave's comments also.
