Photoshop Question

I just got the free trial of Photoshop Elements 8. Cant figure out how to add my signature and save it. When i place text on my photo it adds a layer. Im a little confused.

Your best bet would be to get a book that explains Photoshop....there's lots to learn :) You can save your layered photo as a JPEG and it will automatically merge the layers.

The text tool creates a layer. You can manipulate the text using the layer without messing up the underlying original.

Much is done in photoshop is done with layers. The bottom layer is like the base layer of paint on an object. Successive layers cover the layers below. Each time you create a different text object, it will create a new layer. You can create sharpening layers, blurring layers and lightening or darkening layers. You can create a frame on a layer. Layers can be turned on and off. You can merge all the layers by right clicking in the layer pallet and selecting "flatten". I don't know if elements allows masks as part of a layer but CS3 does. Experiment. Learning to use photoshop is not an overnight endeavor. Keep playing with it. It is a very powerful tool.
