i have a 50D and i am not pissed or urked off.
i bought the 50D - nobody twisted my arm except my evil twin that is inviable.

from the CMOS side, i would not be surprised that the 7D is a new node as compared to the 50D/5Dmkii as far as the gapless microlens and photodiode.

The 50D/5Dmkii being same node but different die size. bigger die size would have different electrical constraint and performance issues.

actually i can see several revisions 50D then 5Dmkii and now the 7D.

just my 2 cents....

Okay then don't mind me apparently I am illiterate ;)
I do not know why I thought I saw that then. Thanks for the link

In light of new evidence Canon 50D owners have every right to be pissed because this camera has officially out done their cameras in every way.
5D2 owners have no need to be upset about anything except the AF system. I would be a little irked about that myself.

Not really. Bought my 50D since it worked for me and it still does that.

I did not mean that 50d owners should be upset by the new 7d. I said they (y'all) have a right to be. I do not think the 50d is a bad camera. I have a 40d and I ain't mad about it. I am just saying that the wrong 2 cameras are getting thrown in the ring.
I believe that you should get the camera that makes you happy. If the 50d does that then great. It is impossible to keep up with technology. By the time you have almost learned the INS and outs of a camera it is yesterdays news. These things are made to last a lot longer than most people keep them.
I think that the 7d should merely be a welcomed addition to a great line up.

From where does this "right" come? I'm sure no 50D purchaser expected Canon to stop making cameras after he bought his.

I'll cut 40D owners a little slack as regards the 50D release. That was an unusually short cycle.

But the 40D is still a damn fine camera.

I can be fairly sure that the 7D will be no better than the 5D2 at the following:

Washing the car
Cooking
Walking the dog
Cleaning windows.

bw! Best statement here. There is too much speculation with no REAL world data. Once the camera is released THEN we can do true comparisons.

And what is it the 5D2 won't do better than the 7D?
If I had both cameras at a wedding/ street shoot/ sports shoot, etc--with one on each shoulder-- what would cause me to shoot one over the other?

I shoot weddings and use two bodies, one on each shoulder. I use a cropper with a short tele for closeups while I have something wider on the 5D mkII so that I can get different compositions without movig around. I even use a third body sometimes, then operated by an assistant from the back of the church, a 5D classic currently.
I have been using a 40D as second but have now ordered the 7D as I'm convinced it's at least one step ahead in high ISO situations.
Besides of that I want a fast focusing, fast shooting complement to the 5D mkII and the 1D series it too expensive for my needs.

Why do certain people get so stuffy and insist on not comparing the 7D to the 5D2? I get the whole full frame vs crop sensor angle putting them in different categories -- and yes the 5D2 is superior in image quality -- but if somebody is trying to decided which camera to buy...well then of course they need to compare them!!! HELLO!!! And just because the 5D2's image quality is superior...doesn't necessarily mean the 7Ds image quality sucks.

I'm attracted to 7D over 5D2 for the following reasons:
- Wireless flash control
- 19-point AF
- Dual digic-4
- 63-zone metering
- Wireless flash control
- $1,000 towards more glass
- Wireless flash control
- Wireless flash control

Can you tell that I think wireless flash control deserves more attention/ praise/ discussion...
