Jannie, I have such trouble getting my shutter release cable to trip my 5D. Do you have any trouble or is yours reliable? And if it is reliable, do you have any tips for me? I've changed my focus from one shot to AI Servo and back again thinking it couldn't find focus so wouldn't release, but evidently that's not the only problem.

Set the lens to MF mode and then pre-focus the lens. That should take care of your "reluctant shutter release" problem. :)

Yeah...that's just creepy. I don't think I could ever explain the logic of having this in my house to someone else, ever. No one would probably come back...

BUT - pretty realistic, gotta give'em that!

If you want the absolute best, you could always get one of these for about $6,500: http://www.realdoll.com/ (external link)

(all these are all mannequins or "Dolls")

I bought an inexpensive mannequin that serves the purpose of evaluating lighting modifier setups very well. $6500 would hire a LOT of models!

I think that last mannequin from the $6.5k models actually crosses the uncanny valley into believability, at least at first glance. Maybe its just the shot.

Wow, those are really nice mannequins.

Not very practical for those who don't have a big house or a photo studio. It'll be really hard to explain to my friends and family why I have a beautiful mannequin on my bed.

When I used that photo I picked the most realistic, but you can see lots more here http://www.realdoll.com …femalegallery&gallery=rui (external link) or here http://www.realdoll.com …wpage§ion=dollgallery (external link) that are not quite so believable.....

Mannequins are...

Mannequins are:

Very patient and never complain about the time it takes you to set up or fiddle with your lights. They do not have greasy or oily complexions which will sometimes cause problems.

I consider a mannequin as a very good subject for a beginning photographer to learn basic lighting.

However, there is a problem with many mannequins, the catch lights are painted into the eyes and cannot be controlled with your lights.

maybe there is some kind of sticker or paint to capture catch lights??

I recently purchased this mannequin "bust" with adjustable head on a swivel, and it actually does a reasonable job at showing actual catchlights in her eyes. There are none "painted on."
