I was talking to my brother's friend and he was telling me about his XTi. He looked at my 50D and just commented "the only difference between the 50D and the XTi is the processor is faster."

I Explained to him the difference in noise handling, the addition of live view, the build differences, the AF differences (sensitivity and "cross point") and the shutter speed.

He stopped me and told me that his XTi, when used with a UDMA 60 MB/s SanDisk Extreme IIII card could shoot 7 FPS.

I called BS and told him that the shutter is not mechanically capable, nor is the mirror, of moving that fast. He insisted. which one of us is wrong here. I would like to think that he is, as I have been trolling this place for months and kindof been staring at the numbers for some time now.

He could be borrowing 'god's' memory card and it wouldn't shoot 7fps.

The kid felt uncomfortable next to your 50D.

If I were you, I shouldn't be thinking too much about it. That's what he knows right? So let him be. lol

You could always just be mean, and let him have his moment, but then crush it by telling him: "Yeah, you might be right, but at least my 50D doesn't look like a toy - is that your camera, or is that your moms?"

i'm not a hater like that. I have respect for the rebels - they're nearly as functional as the xxD series. Why be snobby about a camera that really isn't all that much better? He didn't have the camera on him, so I told him to use his iPhone stop watch app and take pics of the stop watch. I told him to email me 7 pics with EXIF data showing the same 1 second (but different milasecond...). I haven't seen any emails yet...

Nah, I have a rebel myself, just that with a little prick like this, it's often fun to just crush him and watch the squeal.

LOL

I gave him a break because he didn't know camera stuff that well. He said he had a sigma 70mm something, but not as long as mine (my 70-200) with a "f 2 point something, 2.2 I think?"

I corrected him and he agreed. but hey, he's busy programming gate arrays and communicating with proprietary engraving equipment bit by bit, manually over serial in hopes of engraving wood - so you can't know everything :)

I am not sure how idea would work out but I did discover that when shooting a burst with the 1D MK III, the exif shows the same time (no milliseconds). That really screwed up my sorting when I uploaded some images to Smugmug! :-)
