Hard to explain to people that haven't been there, but it really feels natural to be with the bears. I wouldn't have ever believed it until I was there. We don't carry guns or spray, we carry a few "bear flares". Basically a road flare that has a rip-cord to start it. If the bears get too close we'd light a flare (never had to use one).
