Sigh.. and I am just getting my first couple L lenses this year. Oh well, better get them before prices go up again!

Most L series lenses are still well worth the raised price.

I am sure Canon has a goal amount that they have to make, when sales go down they have to adjust the prices up to keep a respectable profit margin. I am okay with that since it keeps then in business and making this fine equipment

I am not anti corporate ;)

Now that is what I call a positive attitude! I can always use a raise too!

My mistake..... there was another article on just UK sales... this one is corporate wide.

Thanks for the link Bohdank, I guess the clue is " the positive effects of cuts in operating expenses". So they sacked the development team and are living on their legacy. The madman is correct "The Sky is falling"!

Well for me that is very much the point. My income has dropped around 40% for the last 12 months compared to the previous 12 months. I'm not about to leap with joy at the idea of spending 33% more for the exact same lenses that were 25% cheaper a year ago. For me the expense is entirely discretionary and if I don't see good/fair value then I vote with my wallet. If the higher prices are here to stay then I may have to re-evaluate my position, but right now I am content to wait another 12 months to see whether prices improve.

Is it Canon's fault that your income dropped? No.

Did he say that. No. Did he imply that. No.

What's with the attacks.

So they raise the prices 30%. You're forgetting about those wonderful 3% rebates!

Some stats were released for the UK. Canon had a very good increase in sales but a decrease in volume. What every company wants...higher margins per unit.

Thats OK as long as you don't start losing market share, which Canon has done in the last 5 years.

Increasing prices will affect sales. That's a no brainer. There are the buy on a whim items that will make people think twice. I have been toying with buying a 300F4IS. I could use the focal length but it's not a must have focal length for me. It would be used maybe 3 times/year for certain events. If it was 30% cheaper I would have bought one, months ago.

A company still needs cash flow to fund R&D... margin isn't everything. Losing market share is often the start of a slippery slope.
