quite a large number of markiv's where sent to the aus open (close to 100 i heard) which also hindered stock levels.

Not just the Aus Open. Prince William's visit was a feeding frenzy for the news agencies, probably cameras there as well.

i have a question for all of the 1d IV owners.

1. did you register your camera on the canon website?
2. if so, did it say anything about the $100 voucher?

Hot off the press....

"Canon plans update of EOS 1D Mark IV firmware"

January 22nd, 2010

Canon has announced it is working on updating the firmware for the EOS 1D Mark IV. The forthcoming firmware, version 1.0.6, will improve the camera's performance when tracking receding subjects and subjects that are approaching the camera slowly. The firmware will be available from late January, the company says.

Actually Canon states that it is an Enhancement ;)

As a result of further enhancement, Canon is working to release a firmware update for the EOS-1D Mark IV. This firmware update further enhances the AF tracking performance and is scheduled to be available for download from the Web starting from late January.

We will update this announcement on once this firmware update is ready for download.

Answer:

Details of the enhancement:
Firmware Version 1.0.6 enhances the AF tracking performance of the EOS-1D Mark IV for receding subjects and for subjects that are approaching at a low speed.

...And (to me), this is pretty normal, though. After all, it is supposed to be an "all new" AF system, which no longer has the maturity and stability of the 1D3, therefore, in need of harnessing its full potential which, in turn, requires a whole lot of testing and tuning...

...And I can already hear the "weak-minded" walking down the hall... :D

I don't see any problem with it either, so long as it's classified as an 'enhancement' rather than a 'fix'.... ;)

I don't care what it's called as long as it makes the camera even better. :)

+1

Apparently Canon have decided this will be the last ever APS-H ever ever or we'll go Noink. Sheesh!! (according to a source on dpreview forum, who obviously has the ear of Canon President Fujio Mitarai):lol:

We'll have Noink sensors anf AF systems next because obviously Canon have no clue what their about. ;)

Stupid looking? Looking stupid? ;)

It's a rubber cover for when you don't have a battery in the camera.
