Great pic alright Nordie, He sure looks the part.......But I am afraid I'm a little peed off at the NZ Herald for printing it with out blanking out the soldiers faces. I don't care how news worthy it is, the NZSAS are a (our) special operations unit who operate in secrecy 99.9% of the time and don't need their faces spread over the internet, even worse, it was Willy Apiata VC (I'll give it to them they didn't know it was him initially). Either they didn't think it through or Don't realise the danger they could put our boys or their families in......Sorry, rant over now.

I had that last car as a winde up toy as a kid.
You could steer it by turning the exhaust pipe.

Nice photo too.

reasonable guesstimate of secondhand pricing:
Canon 5d Body $1800 - 2000
Canon 24-105 f4 IS L series $1600
Canon 17-40 f4 L series $1200
Canon 70-200 f2.8 L series (non IS) $2000
Canon EX580 flash w/slipon diffuser dome $450

if you don't count all the other palava, then it's probably about right...

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

That's not a bad loadout.

In my news I got sick of not having my own camera ... an FZ20 came up at a good price so I jumped on it - yes, I know it's not a Canon, but I didn't really see the point in getting another powershot whichever. It was either going to be a G series or an S series in the interim (the superzooms, not the modern one) but this cropped up literally hundreds of dollars below them.

As it's super versatile (long reach and all) it will at least allow me to keep my hand in - I haven't used the Ixus I borrowed much at all seeing as it has no manual modes at all - not even a little bit.

It will do quite nicely until I step to a big toy :D

Cheers, Shane.

Shameless plug
Does anyone here not have an online backup tool and wants one free? I use it to back up my contracts, general documents, financials, etc, and 2GB is free.

Everyone who signs up for Mozy (external link) using that link and does a backup gives me extra storage space free. US$5/month for unlimited storage. It already saved a friend of mine who's hard drive died suddenly.

I can't use those online backups as my upload speed is so slow. If I am uploading anything, then I can't use the internet as it slows to a crawl. But if I had the bandwidth I can see that it would be a very secure (I mean safe) backup system.

 in due time, only just got it yesterday afternoon - and the weather here is rubbish right now. It should be interesting to see how it compares to the s5is which I've used quite a bit.

Cheers, Shane.

That looks like a pretty good deal, although I am always wary of buying second hand (you don't know what you don't know until you own it and then it's too late!)

Thanks for this - looks interesting and will investigate further.
