I went for a wander last night and ended up with these 2 images that I think kind of fit into this category...

This the clock tower from Ashton Albion church.
I've often wondered what it would look like when photographed at night.
Well now I know. :)
I couldn't do much about the hotspot from the spotlight at the top.

#1 is pretty awesome! #2's mood doesn't seem dark enough, especially compared to #1. I think a black and white conversion might help, as well as dropping the exposure some.

As another suggestion, I'd try taking the same shot when there's still some light outside so that you get background colors. That ought to give a lot more life to #2
