So the lesson is, be enough of a bother and they hook you up?

Man, I gotta get in on that.

Now, I'm going to be more persistant and see if they won't offer me the same. Congrats, $1200 is a steal.

Yea never hurts to ask, but I suppose it also helps to have a site like this on-line for over 2 years which obviously puts Canon first on the list: http://www.motleypixel.com/reviews/ (external link) not-to-mention some of the videos I've done freely plugging Canon.

So I've called in and sent an meail. The phone call was pointless as they only had the XS and the 50d. I gave them my friend's 1Ds serial and that's all they would offer. I asked for a FF replacement and they said they didn't have any. Perhaps the email will be more fruitful.

ive been buying used broken cameras on ebay... rebels can go up to 100 bucks, ive sene 20D's go for even more, i think ive seen upwards of 180. Your best bet is to list it on ebay and DO NOT END EARLY.

If it's really the 5D Mark II that you're getting for $1,200 + dead 30D, it's a SUPER deal, IMHO. Even working 30Ds are going for $350-400 nowadays.

+1

Your title says fair= 50-80$

Market value might be close to 150$ for someone who is willing.
If I were you I would get it fixed. Put it on eBay. You can get 450$ for it with a new shutter.

Congrats on the great deal! Canon is really taking care of their customers...

You'd be lucky to $50 for your camera. My vote is the same as one post above: have Canon replace the shutter for $250 and then sell it for $400...

Actually, you'd be really lucky to buy a broken 30D for $50. Broken DSLR's sell for $75 and up on eBay. I'm thinking you could get at least $100 for it, maybe as much as $175.

what do you need to do in order to qualify for the Canon loyalty program?
I was wondering what prevents people form buying busted 30Ds on ebay in order to get a cheaper 50D.

A photo I took HERE published in National GeographicTime on your hands? Then HERE'S plenty more photos to nibble on (external link):
