What's wrong with fake Rolexes;););)

I can still get them here in Vientiane for around 30 bucks (if you bargain).

Here is mine..

My wife thinks I'm crazy.. I'm in the process of starting a fake watch collection just for the fun of it.. Some really nice Rolexes, Mont Blancs, Bvlgaris etal getting around..

Fake watches and fake L lenses, now that would be a sweet collection.

But, oddly enough, like others, I wouldn't mind having the the white 50 f1.4 in my bag. Too funny. And you know it would become a collectable down the road, years and years from now when Canon finally gets around to redesigning a new 50mm f1.4 MkII, that white 50 f1.4MkI will really be worth a lot! Maybe $525!

Why is it labeled 1.4? Is that a real photo?

I am pretty sure because that is a 1.4 =P Notice the window on it? Nifty doesn't have that.

Soon after this, we will have posts in the classified section asking, "is it the real thing or fake (painted) 50mm f1.4"?

Sadly, you are probably right...it does look like a first rate job though:D

That's pretty much the sickest lens ever. I laughed so hard seeing this! But yes, sadly I'd use it for a conversation starter w/other canon folk.

I have a friend who is thinking about buying a custom painted nifty fifty...it's like a L lens for poor people lol
He sent me a pic and personally I think it looks pretty cool..
Although he told me that it'll probably cost him as much as the lens cost ( which is about 100 bucks lol ), Im thinking about getting one once I see it in person...

Anyone here try to do something like this?

I'll but it in $400 doesn't matter how old it is! :)

I wouldn't mind having my 1.8 mk I done up this way--looks very similar to the 1.4 anyway--but no way I'm paying that much for it. Sure is funny, tho.

Hmm, I don't think I'd be brave enough to paint my lens white, but I'd seriously consider painting a red ring on it :)

I want one. That is HILARIOUS. I already have a couple lenses that I bought for their conversation piece charm, why WOULDN'T I want this. I think I'd probably end up using this one more than I use my regular black 50/1.4 USM.

$100 for the paint job on a $325 lens ain't so bad.

The red ring is a bit off it seems. And one concern of mine would be how would the paint hold up at the hood mount, because I know how I keep my lens in the bag with the hood reversed and flip it when I take it out... that on-again off-again is gonna rub some paint out. I think ColorWare (www.colorwarepc.com (external link)) could do a good job of this, but probably charge A LOT more than $100.
