40D question: Life Expectancy?

I've had mine for just over 2 years now, and figured out it's had 66k shutter actuations. I know it's rated to 100k, so I'm guessing the shutter is what goes out first.

What are some other potential repair issues cameras acquire? I mean if it's mainly a shutter issue I can see paying $250 for repair cost, but on an undropped, non-soaked, mostly dust-free camera are there other components that burn out sooner than later?

Run 'er 'till she drops .. I've put between 50-100 clicks on a number of XXD's and read of others getting 100+.

The two main wear components are shutter and mirror box.

Any clue on shutter box repair costs?

Parts are not very expensive... it is the labor. If you send it for shutter replacement it will be $200 and if you send it in later for mirror box it will probably be $200... I am not sure just guessing here.

If anything it can be fixed for about $200

Well, I guess I could take the "wait and see" approach in a year or two, or sell now for $600 and spend another $400 on a new 50D, or an extra grand and upgrade to the 7D... decisions, decisions.

I wanted to know this too... Well I think it's better to get a great condition 50D for 400$ more than probably pay 2x200$ repairs for an older 40D...
