So I shot one of these outside in natural light, and the other with just a small desk lamp..

I like the top image...the background sky almost looks fake which I like...a good exposure...did you burn the sky a little in PPP?

First is a really tight crop..
Second, Wb is all wrong..and it may suffer from motion blur of just soft OOF

i thought it was OOF, but just a hair, the WB I is why I'm playing with natural lighting, so I can learn how to make adjustments as needed..... any direction here would be great.. dont just tell me its off, i knew that... whats the best way to correct it.......( These were shot as JPGS just kinda fooling around)

To answer the PP question, yes Burned, and a few other little tricks I have picked up alond the way

I agree with the others - first image to me is too tight - it isn't really telling me anything about what is going on - it is not telling me a story, just a trolley car.

Second image - also agree that the white balance is off, but shooting with incandescent lighting that is what you get. Shooting in jpg - what software do you use to post process? In Lightroom you can make all adjustments to jpg just like you can a raw image in photoshop raw conversion. The image is too warm so you have to cool it down - slide the white balance slider in lightroom to the left. Or choose something in the image that is truly white with the white balance dropper and that should get it pretty close. You may be able to sharpen the OOF a bit with the unsharp mask. I would also crop off the right side - probably to the edge of the white window frame and the brown wall. The dog is looking out of the picture. It would be better if you would have shot it to leave more room to the left, thus the dog would not be looking so drastically out of the picture - just shift to the left.

Hope this helps!

Jackie

the trolly wasnt really cropped too much for fit, just s slight rotate, and croppped the edge ( just a hair) and i dont know why it never occured to me that the OOF with dog was from sharpening..........

The dog's nose appears to be in focus, but his eyes are slightly out.

Take the same shot with all the white balance settings on your camera and look at them side by side. Play with the WB settings in your software. That's the best way to understand what you need. Outside under good light these cameras generally do a good job with auto WB. Inside with artificial light you are going to have to understand WB settings and playing with them is the best way.

The fact you never mentioned any opinions you had first off didn't make me sense that you knew.sorry.
In the future if you add your settings for each photo. it sure would help folks steer you in a better way.

I should have posted the data about these shots with them, but I cant remember what they were at this point and i didnt copy the data with them since I was just toying around....

FLO .... I must apolligize to you specifically, after reviewing this post, My response to you seemed kind of snotty, and rude... I certianly meant no dis respect, and in no way meant to seem ungrateful, or like " I know everything". I have to admit, it"s kind of difficult to show emotion, or emphasise anything in particular in text....
.
.
So my best guess, is that the 24mm isnt the best lens to shoot trolly with , well at least at the range I was at (maybe take a few steps back to get a lil more subject matter into the shot.....).
.
And the dog ( whom we affectionatly refer to as "ED" seeing as she reminds us of the, how shall we say " Special Needs" hayena from the Disney movie The Lion King... You know the type.. dumb as a brick...) Her eye was in focus for a second, I just didnt getting the button pushed quick enuf, she's super hyper kinda dumb pup, and I think she edited the photo of herself to look more like the lions rather than the hayena ....:lol:;);)
