Uk Warranty on 1D Mk4?

Am awaiting the arrival of my new baby,due 2morrow!
Did the whole 5D v 7D thing and almost got a 5D Mk2 BUT I shoot lots of subjects, like most of you no doubt, and LOVE my current 1D Mk2n.
Oh yes love just holding the thing brings me joy (sad or what!!).
So to step down from a 1D was just to much, especially as my wife told me I would always wish I had the Mk4 if I had got the 5D.

Well I am 50 next month so early gift.

Now to my question, does the Mk4 come with a 1 or 2 year warranty here in the UK?

Anyone?

The EU have made it law that any product sold within its borders have to have 2 year warranties. That law has been in place for a while.

However!

I've just bought a new lens, manufactured in December. It arrived with paperwork that only promises 12 months warranty, which is illegal according to the EU. I suspect that they will not volunteer the extra year, but will fold when pushed.

Your 'EU' warranty is with the retailer not the manufacturer. You don't have to prove any inherent fault on the product if it fails in the first 6 months. After 6 months the onus in on you to prove there was an inerrant fault. The retailer will usually fall back on the manufactures warranty to get the faulty item fixed. This is a customer service issue/ploy in your favour so that no one has to argue the toss as to the inherent fault business.
After the manufactures warranties expires then you still have redress against the retailer under EU law but the retailer will usually argue for the proof to show the fault was inherent in the product. If you can prove the fault. The retailer may still refuse to refund your item as they don't want to pay for the fix/refund and break the law in the process. Then you will have to recover your loss through the courts.
As much as you have rights. It doesn't mean that someone would respect them when the time comes.
Note again. You don't have a contract with the manufacturer. Your contract and rights lay with the retailer.

I know this as I have worked recently in retail in the UK.

The Canon site says to register for the one year warranty but on the Warehouse Express site it sats "The new Canon EOS 1D Mk4 with a 2 year Canon warranty as standard" while Jessops ( who are not the best) say 1 year.

I was hoping an 'owner' would be able to advise.

I did e-mail Canon but no reply and thought this would be quicker.

Regardless of anything you see or hear from asking questions, if you send the camera in after 12 months and they ask you to pay, show them official documents stating what has been said above about warranties being 2 years by default, make sure they know the purchase date and then they should technically not even argue about it.

Hi Sadgit, theres instructions within the box on how to claim your 2 year warranty, so yes UK cameras do have a 2 year warranty.

If I had a little more patience I would not have needed to post, but it's my 1st new toy in about 4 years and also the most expensive camera I will ever buy,probably ( makes my 85mm 1.2 look cheap!).
Just wish it would arrive.
