If you use an AMEX on camera equipment does it extend the warranty? If so, is it true for all AMEXes or just certain one and how long does it extend warranties on DSLRs?

I just checked their website and I think it extends it a year.

yes at least my amex does.
It works great! Once I bought a monitor from gateway and after a year and a half, the monitor craps out.

since gateway went out of business, I had amex cover the damage thru the extended warranty. They did ask a few question including having me go to a local shop to get an estimate on how much to fix the monitor.

After we found out that the damage is irrepairable, Amex had me shop for another replacement monitor and they send me a "credit" in my amex card for the purchase.

Amex is GREAT. this is always my first card of choice to purchase anything, especially electronics and travel.

Mastercard does this too... Their protection doubles the OEM warranty with a maximum of upto 4 years... I just recently used it and they sent me a check for the repairs... Kind of a long process, but it was worth it..

I used it once for a Dell laptop that fried its motherboard. I had to jump through a few hoops, take the thing in for a diagnosis, etc., but they paid for that and credited my account for the price of a new equivalent laptop.

I took advantage of it a couple of times. works very well.

you should read the details on their website, but... here are a couple of important things to remember.
1. new only - does not cover used stuff
2. must pay everything with amex - paying through paypal is ok(I've heard), but you need to fund the entire amount with AMex.

#1 is kinda a no brainer... warranties from manufacturers typically are never honored for used items so CC companies wouldnt have anything to "extend" in the first place.

Good point on number 2 though...

Amex even protects against accidental damage within some days after purchase.

I have carried their card since the early eighties and highly recommend their services. In that time they have replaced an out of warranty hard drive, a stolen leather jacket, and a brand new television that I dropped trying to carry down the stairs. They will also stand behind you if you have problems with a merchant.

90 days accidental damage protection.. never had to use it, but it's good to have.
