If you go to amazon / bhphoto, once available, you'll find it for $100-300 cheaper. After all the demand and back-order, you can probably pick one up for $2100-$2200. This is going to compete with Nikon's 70-200 VR II and they will price it competitively just below. I love my f/4L IS version for its size, weight, and prime-like sharpness. It has to be really good to convince me to upgrade. For that money I would prefer an 85L 1.2.
