This is more hyped up than the 100L. The price went down fast lol.

I believe this will be 1,399 - 2.399 max.

Wcken that is some range you put in there.

Are they really discontinuing the non-IS version? That would be a damn shame as it's a hell of a lens.

They will discontinue the current 70-200 2.8 IS, but there is no reason to discontinue the non IS.

Just as there is no reason to discontinue the 70-200 f4 non-IS.

Canon's equivalent lenses are almost always cheaper than Nikon....

While true in the past, it hasn't been the case with the latest high-end releases (200/2, TS-E24II...)

How does the Canon 70-200 F2.8 L2 compare with the Nikon 70-200 f2.8 VR2?

Just was going to post that ^^

Looks like I will never see that lens... $500 increase? Man...

Based on the MTF charts, it does not look to be that big of an improvement in contrast and sharpness over the original.

So at the latest state of play we have the following

USA rrp = $2499 = £1585

UK pre-order at WEX = $3924 = £2490

I know we talk about "Rip-off Britain" but this is plain ridiculous.

I think it's time for me to write to Canon UK.

Woo Hoo!

Not very cheap, but still not $4000 or something crazy.

You have to remember that the price is the suggested retail price / msrp. If you go to amazon / bhphoto, once available, you'll find it for $100-300 cheaper. After all the demand and back-order, you can probably pick one up for $2100-$2200. This is going to compete with Nikon's 70-200 VR II and they will price it competitively just below. I love my f/4L IS version for its size, weight, and prime-like sharpness. It has to be really good to convince me to upgrade. For that money I would prefer an 85L 1.2.
