Make sure to play around with it a bit first, shooting at 1.8 -2.8 aperture is a whole different beast than using the kit lens. You really have to start watching for your depth of field too, which is something I still have a big problem with. Even if you don't have any time to practice a bit before the game, you're still going to end up with much better shots.

Those bball shots have a lot of noise. I was thinking the 7D would of performed much better... I am almost ready to order one.

They're shot at iso6400. If you want/need better (less noise), then get the 5D2, or reach deep into your wallet and get the 1d4 or Nikon D3s.

I'm still in the 7D learning curve but have noticed that there is less noise than my 40D. There is still noise, just less.

I was playing a little while ago, trying to get rid of the yellow cast from the lighting. At 6400 there is noise, but I had to look for it.

Geez. Does anybody read a manual anymore? Or does anybody actually bother to educate themselves on HOW to take a picture? I work part-time at a camera store during my last semester of school and I cant tell you how many people out there think the 7D has focusing issues due to threads like this.

TOTALLY agree. The 7D is a great camera, but it's not capable of defying the laws of physics and allowing sharp shots of moving objects at 1/3s.

Coming from an XS, I think the problem is you get mediocre shots in bad light with a Rebel, but you are really pushing the camera to the limits. The shots disappoint but you know that you need a new body to do better (assuming you have a great lens). You go out and get the 7D, which is waaaaay more capable than the XS, and now for the first time, your skills become the limiting factor, not the camera. The Rebels are easy because they can only do so much.

Analogy - hop in a golf cart and take a lap around a race track. You will end up with a crappy time, but you know you went as fast as the cart would go, no skill required. Upgrade to a race car and now you crash. Not the car's fault.

This must be a UK saying. I don't get it. Does it mean he is laughing?

Yeah:

  • He's having a joke with us.
  • It was posted as a joke.
  • It's fake
  • He's pulling our leg

Got it. My wife is from the South and she once told me I was showing my butt. I literally turned around and pulled up my pants. Never heard the phrase before. Guess it means making an ass out myself.

If your genuine, don't take it personally. We all had to start somewhere. Heck I've never really read a book about photography, I just played with settings until I was happy with the results (asking questions along the way).
