Regarding the questions on IS, it is probably worth a refresher from one of the lens manuals. Documentation for the 100-400 can be found here - http://www.eosdoc.com/manuals/?q=100-400LIS (external link).

Salient points that may not be obvious to all....

- Mode 2 is effective for stabilising panning either horizontally or vertically. It will not cope with diagonal pannning, which is of course a combination of both.

- IS is designed to cope with small movements, such as might be expected when hand holding in a steady position or panning smoothly. It is not intended to handle large movements such as those that might be experienced when shooting from a moving vehicle or rocking boat.

- It will not cope with rotational movement such as that resulting from a stabbing/jabbing action on the shutter button.

- IS should be allowed up to 1 second to settle, before shooting. When you combine that with the need to establish a servo tracking pattern for at least 0.5 seconds you can see that IS may not be well suited to fast reaction shooting, unless you are pre-prepared with IS up and spinning away in advance.

Going back to one of the points made earlier, I do not see why IS Mode 2 should be a problem when panning fast cars close up. In that mode the IS will only try to counter vertical shake. As far as horizontal panning is concerned the camera should operate as though IS was off. Perhaps if you are panning at an odd angle, for artistic effect, there might be the possibility that the IS gets confused and can't make its mind up whether it is to stabilise verticacl motion or horizontal since from the camera's point of view the motion will be diagonal.

In the UK at WEX the MK IV has now dropped another £30 (wow) since last week.

Down to £4148. Still high compared to the USA but the price keeps falling even if it's by small amounts.

I'm still guessing £3799 by the summer. Although there are others here who have said that they have info that it'll be £3500. I doubt it but great if it is.

Personally I got a second hand MK III and decided to save for gLass instead.

I'm still following the MK IV though.

Quick question. This is probably in the thread so sorry if this is repeated. I did try to find the answer.

With regard to the peripheral lens correction feature.... my workflow is RAW...into Lightroom...sometimes into Photoshop CS4. So I assume this feature of peripheral lens correction will not benefit my workflow, correct?

I wouldn't think so as you are shooting RAW, but I also don't have a camera with that function, so I don't know for sure! Shouldn't be a problem to fix either way in LR or PS if you're getting some falloff.

Hello all,

Does anyone have a good recommendation on actually finding a 1DmkIV? I have not been able to find any camera vendors with it in stock. I usually get my cameras and lenses from B&H. Their website says "Temporarily Unavailable". I had to wait about 6 months to get my hands on the Canon 5DmkII. We all know the technical delays with the 5DmkII. I'm not interested in paying a big premium to buy it from the sharks and scammers on eBay. I can patiently wait until it is available at a fair price. Any thoughts 1DmkIV owners?

Thanks in advance,

Brian

Is anyone else out there having problems with their mark IV. I have not been happy since i got it. I tried to use it in the studio for the 2nd time today and it is just not sharp. I had to use my 6 year old 1DS. My mark IV was not even close to the image i'm getting with my old camera it is not even useable. Am I the only one with issues?

Not sharp? Did you do any MA on your lenses? Mine is just as sharp as my other bodies. Well actually, sharper than 40D.

What are you basing your sharpness by? 100% viewing?
Raw? Jpeg? Which converter? Which lens. Have you checked calibration on the lens?
