Okay,
Today I decide to sell my T1i and 1D classic to raise the funds to purchase a 1DmII...
Sure enough....something is seriously wrong with the cam today...out of nowhere too..

So,up until this morning it worked fine.
Symptoms...
The LCD screen is all white. It has a bit of blue to the left side...but I cannot access the menu, view images,I cant do anything..
It seems that something became loose...so,I(having a lot of experience with modifying DSLR's for IR,Astro, etc) I opened up the back plate of the body to see if I noticed anything loose...nothing.
Double checked all connections.no results.
No matter what settings the cam is in for exposing, the shutter snaps and the screen turns blown out white, with blue on the left side, like that is the image it just captured..but,if I even put the body cap on,same thing..
THe Display button no longer turns on the screen(or previews the last image),the Menu button turns it on,but it is still exactly the same, washed out with blue on the side...

Also the display right below the LCD screen is showing some random lines..everything on the top portion of that display(i.e. "CARD",etc all visible) is fine, but below that is some random lines like it has also been fried..

Could the lens have done this? I dont see how...but I have been fooled something stupid before...

Is there something I should look for inside the body?
Or am I doomed to send it to Canon which will cost a fortune to have fixed because the parts are no longer made....?

I am really at the mercy of you guys here...I am hoping someone has seen,or heard of this happening before..

PLEASE HELP!!!!

thanks in advance for ANYthing/advice you have for me!!!

Brent

I will post an image of the screen in a bit

Did you try and pull out the cmos battery and let the circuit drain. Then reinsert it and check?

Test the cmos battery before you put it back in. They dont last forever.

Where is the CMOS battery?
I take it you are talking about the small 3v(IIRC) cirular disk battery that is hidden inside the main battery compartment...right?

Remove the main battery pack. It is located in the ceiling or top of the battery compartment. You'll need a small screwdriver to remove it.

Yes that is what keeps your settings and internal charge, date, all that in the memory. Worth a shot. Good luck, leave it out for like 5 min with the brick battery out and the selector switches to on. Also I remember I used to get some strange errors with my 1d when I had this one aftermarket battery that had some fluctuations.

Still happening..
Talked to Canon Tech,he said it definately sounds like the LCD has been broken or is leaking,or something like that....I dont know how it could just break with no dropping,or even hard staring at it..
Oh well...good news is that the guy I bought it from has it under warranty for another 25days!!! So it is going back to him and then we will see if it costs any money to replace the screen...

I think there may be more than that wrong with it...but I will have to let the pros deal with it now..

At least they still have the parts to fix this old of a model..I was surprised when the tech told me they did..

Anyways,I will let you know when I get it back...or a refund...
If I get a refund...I am buying a 1DmII straight away!!! :D

Thanks again,
Brent

I'm not surprised they still service the 1D classic. It is still used by pros. For web output 4MP is still plenty!

I dont "WANT" a refund...but I am not going to be puting any more money into the camera..
The original owner may have no choice to give me a refund...I hadnt even used it to snap two pics before the LCD died..
If they fix it under warranty(I think he bought it through a dealer and they offered the warranty),and it doesnt cost anything,I AM FOR SURE taking the cam back...

Every image I have seen from the 1D is still amazing even though it is only 4mp..I would love to actually get a chance to put it through its paces..
BUT,if not..with the refund I will buy a 1DmII anyways.. :D
I may buy the mII anyways and keep both..the 1D as my backup..
