success! i got the lens fixed. nothing was broken internally. just figured out how all went together and snapped it back into place with a little force. the auto focus is still working (along with manual) but seems a little sticky. it will definitely work until i have some extra cash laying around for the 1.4. thanks all for the help.

Good fix! Hope you didn't get glue on the front element ;-)a

Congratz on the fix.

And.... pray your 50 1.4 doesn't fall apart? The Canon 50 1.4 is rather notorious for having issues. Skip it and go Sigma 50 1.4 =)

And.... Pray your Sigma 50mm doesn't front focus by 2 feet? :)

Skip it and go to the 50mm F1.2 L

And.... Pray you don't get the focus shift problems

Skip it and go to the Zeiss 50mm f1.4

And... Pray you can manually focus in low light at large apertures

:D:lol:

Seriously, Canon needs a good reliable, problem free, issue free 50mm option - even if it is f2.

look for a 50 1.8 mk1. theyre metal mounts

There looks to be one of those in (used) at my local camera shop for $79. Should I jump on it?

if it's the MK I it'll be worth about double that

to make sure it's the MK I it'll have a metal mount, and the focus ring will be in the middle of the lens instead of near the front...it also won't have the II on the front obviously :)

id probably jump on it, thats a good deal.

and i didnt need to use any glue to get it fixed. it just pops back into place once you figure out it works (nearly like a puzzle piece).

It's the Nifties Transformer like ability to take on multiple shapes and sizes that makes it so nifty...

Same thing happened to mine recently.

Was turning on a lens hood, and I guess I put a bit too much pressure on it, and it fell apart.

I've snapped it back on a few times, but it just continues to fall out if the focus ring goes to far one way. I think there's actually something that might have snapped off or cracked inside.

Anyone know if this would be covered under warranty? I've only had this lens 8 or 9 months.

I have actually done that to two Nifties in the last two weeks  First I dropped my own on the floor and then I borrowed my sisters, which fell out of my camera bag during this weekend.
So no more Nifties for me...
