1D Mk II a good supplement to 5D classic?

I'm getting a bit pre-buyer's remorse on a 1D Mark II I'm about to buy :-)

Recently changed from 40D to 5D Classic. Been loving the camera and the opportunities the sensor gives me. I haven't missed the higher framerate nor autofocus, but have been wondering whether I'll miss it when the weather gets better, and we get to spend more time outside.

Found an ad for a used 1D Mark II, and thought it might complement the 5D nicely for sports, action and if I need a bit more reach.
The body has 43.000 clicks, comes with two batteries, charger and has been checked by canon 1,5 years ago. The price I settled with dealer is equivalent to $640.
Objectively it seems like a good deal (though you can't really compare used prices here in Denmark with UK or the States) but I'm a bit unsure whether the money would get better use on more glass.

My lenses are 24L, 50 1.8, 85 1.8, 200 2.8L and a Sigma 70 macro. The money is not a big hit to me, but have been considering a general zoom for the 5D (probably 24-70) as my next buy.

Does anyone have the combination of cameras? Are you satisfied? All inputs are welcome :-)

I am using a 20D and a 1D mark IIn, the only thing I want now is a FF and HD video capacity.
The 1D is great at action shots, I shoot a lot of birds, and the medium sensor is pretty good with seldom wide angle shots, too. But since you have a 5D for that, the 1DII would be perfect for your action supplement.

I had a IIn with my 5d and found it a perfect compliment. When I went out shooting wildlife, aviation, or sports...took the 1d. For general portraits, landscapes, studio...5d. I rarely had difficulty choosing which body to take with me.

For vacations...general street shooting, the size of the camera always won out...5d.

Hope that helps a little.

I like full frame, but LOVE the 1D build/feel. I may get another 1 series. The 5D/1D combo rocks.

A 1D Mk II and 5D classic would be a killer combo. When you need speed, AF, and durability you have the 1D2 and when you need a compact body or the benefits of FF, you have the 5Dc. $640 USD over here in the US is a pretty good price for a 1D Mk II.

Thanks for the advice.
Seemed like it'd be a good combo, so jumped on it.
First impressions: the framerate seems much higher than the 40D (probably because of the louder sound), and that charger is huge :D

Yes, it is an improvement from the 40D for pretty much everything (40D has a couple more MP, 3" screen with same res, live view I never use). With my 100-400L having AF with my 1.4x the extra reach really isn't even an issue.
