As the monitor "breaks in" it will lose some brightness anyway. I run mine at 10% Brightness and it gives 110cd/m2 luminance.

I was wondering, I recently nudged my brightness up a little bit as it seemed like it was getting a little bit dimmer (not much, just barely noticeable).

The ambient light reading from my Spyder3Pro is almost always "Medium" which is supposed to be 175-200 cd/m^2. Would this suggest that I need to turn the brightness up or should the monitor brightness be slightly less than ambient?

Under the same lighting when I do the brightness adjustment part of the Spyder3Pro calibration I need to turn the brightness down to what you're recommending (actually zero is best, but I turned it up to 5).

I'll probably get flamed (again) for this, but I suggest you turn off the ambient light function and just pretend it doesn't exist.

No flamin' from me. I always have ambient light compensation set to off. :)

I used "Spyder3Utility" to manually take a light reading.

I think the monitor should be, ever so slightly, the brightest light source in the room. In other words, slightly brighter than overall ambient light conditions. When I work at home, the only other light is a print viewing lamp and it doesn't shine on my screen. At my office, I work in a typical bright fluorescent corporate office environment, but still following the same rule.

Just opened the box and turned it on, this display is great. Can't wait to calibrate it.

I got this monitor and the bottom 2 inches of the screen is a yellow color. Not all that noticeable, but for a photographer it is. After 2 hours on the phone with Dell, I was able to get a shipping label to return the monitor. My Studio XPS desktop that I just got a week ago has a faulty DVD burner. I spent nearly 4 hours on the phone yesterday trying to get it all returned.

They finally gave me the shipping labels and everything is going back. I will never buy another thing from Dell. Their customer service is the absolute worst I have dealt with. Dell may be saving money outsourcing their customer service to India, but I'm sure they lose a lot of customers because of the horrible service they provide.

Yikes. I had a great experience with them. I thought I had a couple of dead pixels in the middle of the screen after I got the monitor. I emailed them and received a response after a couple of hours that they would be shipping out a replacement monitor the next day. That night I turned on the monitor and couldn't find a single bad pixel. I emailed them back and asked if they could cancel the replacement. They emailed me back after about 20 minutes and everything was straightened out.

I guess it may be better to just email them instead of calling.

Yea, I think it's a little harder when dealing with desktops or laptops. I did email them about the monitor, but got through via phone before they wrote me back.

I decided to splurge on the 27" Quad Core i7 iMac, so I'm more than happy!
