I emailed a regional sales manager at Canon. Here's his reply...

You had to be a photographer at the Olympics. That is the only way they were available.

Canon Canada has the mugs but we do not. We are checking into the possibility of them, but for now, there is NO way for anybody to get any.

I will let you know IF and when we can get them. It will not be anytime soon.

i believe was figuring it is real with nothing verifiable...and guessing on availability. it would be soooo easy for that other guy djharmonix to take a pic of the top, but guess what...he didn't.

it is not real folks. oh and he magically said he quit and cannot help us. oh but then he magically is working until next friday. c'mon. seriously. wake up.

it does say sold out, but i would not take my chance on it. overseas seller with no guarantee. i would always ask for more pics, etc. etc. if it was an auction or something you would be purchasing.

the other guy here was quick to snap a photo yet given the many many pages beforehand, with all the questions...he just happen to take a photo and only 1 photo which did not show either the top OR the bottom of what he supposedly had in his hand.

then...when people asked to be hooked up with one as soon as his boss gets them in his shop...he says he quit actually and he cannot help anyone.

then out of some miracle to keep his ruse going cuz there were doubters or whatever...he says he is there for another week...magically again.

why don't you include a pic of your "in hand" mug that shows the top, maybe the bottom and with the top removed as well. is that so hard really?

why dont you get the name of the person that your boss has to buy them from and let us know the source...we would easily get 100 people here, and could get them without the $15 profit margin as well.

after all, you say you quit or are quiting right...so why not reveal the source of these who requires 100 minimum, to which you had to convince your boss, but you know you wouldnt have to convince anyone here if it's real.

if i was in your position, it would be nothing for me to do that for potn'ers, nor would it be anything to take a pic of the mug from the top or other pic that would squash a lot of rumors.

I am quite sure this is real. No one would go to the trouble of photoshopping a lens and a box and then putting in all the subtle differences that are visible.

It has also been widely reported by many different people that these were handed out at the Olympics in Vancouver.

Can you not see the differences?

planning to make some profit on your "pre-orders" :)

Nah.. I only have two, one for coffee, and the other will remain in it's black wrapping paper tied up with the bow until I know about public availability for sure.

That is, unless someone offered an absurd amount of money for the other unopened mug, it'll stay in my collection. But Carsand said they'd be available for $30 CAD.

i looked on the site (yes even used the search box!) and couldnt find these :-( Whats the deal??

They're a small camera store compared to Henry's or Vistek. I'm not sure if they have people on staff devoted to web site development, or if they're only taking pre-orders by phone.

guess not. why are the few that supposedly have one so reluctant to post a proper picture? to keep people guessing? because there is not one existing? just saying.

I'm sure it exists, plenty of people have posted that it was given away at the Olympics, and I guess I can believe it. But, I've seen this mug a while back, before the Olympics. Don't know where, probably around here somewhere, and it was equally as hard obtaining info back then as it is now.

Until I see a definitive image with proof positive, or until I have one in my hand, I reserve opinion. Just for the sheer idea of it I want one, even if I never used it.

OK, I called and E-mailed Canon (CPS since they gave away the mugs)about the avalibility of this item to the general public and not those lucky enough to make it to the Olympics and be in the know with someone at Canon or be wealthy and famous enough for them to hunt you down. Here's a snip of my return e-mail:

The thermos is not offered for sale, however, we have forwarded a request to make them available for purchase through our Customer Feedback process. This process allows us to capture important feedback from our customers.

We look forward to your reply with the information we have requested.

Thank you for choosing Canon.

Sincerely,

Erik
