I now I'm new here, but still..
If you click the search button you'll find 50 other threads about the same thing, exactly the same thing..

And Sigma 30 is the best choice, or Canon 35L..

I'm in the same boat. The Canon 28 f1.8 and Sigma 30 f1.4 seem to be the most mentioned primes in that range. Another lens that I've noticed, but isn't mentioned much, is the Sigma 28 f1.8. It's the least expensive of the lot, but doesn't seem to get much mention here in the forum.

I've had the sigma 30 which I've been very happy with, it's a great and a sharp lens from 1.8-2.0 onward, and acceptable wide open. But it has also the best build and accessories.

I don't know much about the Sigma 28, but DON'T get the 20mm/1.8 from Sigma though..
At least not if you'd like to use it for portraits, or you like good bokeh: http://www.pbase.com/ssanneru/image/93312912 (external link)

Because it is huge and slow focusing, mainly. It has killer MFD, though, one of the primary shortcomings of the 30mm f1.4.

For me, I would pick 28mm f2.8 if you want cheap, sharp, and lightweight, 30mm f1.4 if you want best sharpness, color and speed, 28mm f1.8 if you want full frame compatibility and/or best AF. 35mm f2 is another options, but I think it is usually too expensive to consider over the others.

My friend swears by his Sigma 30/1.4. I've seen too many backfocusing issues on these forums and reviews. IF you get a nice one, it should be great, but I didn't want to deal with that so I went with the Canon 28/1.8. SOLID LENS!!!

I'm definitely going for the Sigma 30 f/1.4. I've been reading lots of reviews and it seems like a really great quality lens.

I received my Sigma 30 /1.4 a few days ago. Haven't had time to take photos other than of my 'fridge door and bedside table so I can't be sure yet whether I've got a good copy or a bad one. Fingers crossed.

I bought the Canon 28 1.8 (used), because I couldn't find a proper Sigma 30 1.4 (after 7 copies that either front or backfocused). This lens is spot on, even in the lowest of tungsten light :D
Very happy about my choice, even though it's not very sharp at f/1.8 - it's usable, f/2 is very sharp.

Some of my lenses focus beyond infinity...!
