Media card interface. Look on the right hand side for the silver area. That's the shielding for the card reader. Other pic is of the copper shielding for the microphone. Note the area next to it - it's a conductive adhesive blanket to make sure that any noise present goes to the ground of the camera.

awesome post! thanks so much for taking the time. Looks like there's still some discrete soldered connections in there though is that right? (I've dismantled/repaired a 1D Mk II)

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

So, did you get that dust speck?

Got ALL of the dust bunnies out. The camera had about 60,000 cycles through it.

It was such a successful project that I cleaned out the Mark III also. Now THAT was bad!!! The Mark III had over 500,000 cycles through it.

There are a few discrete solder connections on the camera, but mostly for grounding and to attach ground shields to the boards. The largest amount of solder is near the sensor - they really want that grounded out to prevent as much noise as possible!

When I open up my Fuji camera for the first time, i was electrocuted by the huge capacitor. It burnt 2 holes on my finger.

Yikes...you must have touched the storage cap for the flash! About 400 volts!

Only if they know about it. Note - no serial numbers. :)

you may want to blur photo showing the barcode on the back of the sensor... ;)

WoW! Double WoWoW!
I took apart a fishing reel once and a spring was launced into the air never to be recovered and when I had it put back together, I had four extra parts and it never did work correctly. Later in life, I put a bicycle together on Christmas eve and almost had it finished by the New Year. On the first ride, my son and two important parts fell of the bike and my spouse refused to talk to me for a week. The hospital bill was not that large though and I am sure the limp will not be a lifetime impairment. Tongue-in-cheek to be sure, but seriously....I am impressed!!
