First off, I'm sorry for the bad quality, but this was taken with a 50mm + 65mm ext + 2X TC.

Also, I don't really know anything about insects, so bear with what may seem like a naive question.

I found this little critter walking on my kitchen floor. At first I thought it was an ant, but then got thrown off track by it's "stinger". After doing a bit of research I found that it might be an ovipositor.

I didn't get a good shot of it's head, but the pincers seemed rather small, and I thought that ants had 'jointed' antennae.

So, if anybody could identify it that would be awesome.

Thanks for looking.

Good one - not ant ant but a parasitoid wasp (assume it's an small Ichneumon wasp) - the big giveaway is the antennae which are straightish - ant's always have a long elbow joint on their antennae so they come out L shaped.

Hey Brian, thanks for the reply. At one point last night my wife was thinking it was a wasp, but the lack of wings had use second guessing that.

I'll keep my eye open for more and see if I can get a better picture. These things are pretty small(3mm or so)so I might have to try reversing a lens to get some better magnification.
