I truly hope so, $1200 (roundabouts) after conversion is pretty steep, but if it stays sub-$900 range, I think it'll be very popular.

Just look up Sigma USA web site price vs Amazon price. Amazon price is usually >30% less than Sigma USA web site.

For example, old 70-200 f/2.8 on Sigma is $1200. Amazon is $800.

Still learning

From sigma-photo.de (€ MSRP incl. 19% VAT):

8-16mm: TBD.
17-50mm OS: €799
70-200mm OS: TBD.
50-500mm OS: €1899
85mm: TBD.

For comparison: The MSRP for the old 50-500mm is €1599 while the street price is actually around €900.

  • Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 OS = £2,000
  • I don't think this is the MSRP. IMHO the dealer just made up some high prices to be on the safe side.

Apparently the new 17-50 DC OS HSM lens lacks full time manual and uses their micro-HSM technology. So this thing has to be significantly cheaper than the Canon 17-55 f2.8 IS for me to even entertain making a switch. In fact, without ring HSM and FTM I won't even consider a change. Now if it had ring HSM with FTM, that'd be more interesting to me.

The 85 and 70-200 lenses look real good though.

I'm with you... if it doesn't have FTM focus I won't bite. I guess I'm just spoiled :p

I would like it to be cheaper, but $1200 isn't bad for a 70-200mm 2.8 with OS.

A totally new optical design 70-200 f2.8 EX DG OS HSM with 4 stop stablization, ring HSM and FTM, 4 years EX warranty, and Sigma's new fluorite-like ('FLD') glass for under $900 USD brand new?

It won't stay in stock for 5 mins each time it comes in...worse availability than the Tokina 11-16 f2.8.

Don't hold your breath for that price.

I would pay $1200 or so if the new 70-200 has excellent IQ, comparable to the canon variety. Much more affordable than the new Mark II...

Then again, it could have worse IQ. Tamron seemed to take a step backwards in IQ in their VC version of the 17-50/2.8.

Just to clarify, the quote above by me, was meant for the 85/1.4...not the new 70-200's.

Old 70-200 was $700 street, I bet this one is right at $1100 once it hits stores. Any more and they won't be pursuading others who are comparing prices for the Canon version. If their prices get too close...and I would say 400 US as too close, people will just pay the extra for Canon. My thoughts.

When will they be made available? There are no news about them on Sigma's website.

The Sigma 50-500 OS is apparently already available. I see em on Adorama and B&H.

86mm filter threads and $1600? WOW!

Is it really that much better than the 150-500 OS?

I guess it depends how much the extra 100mm on the wide end is worth to someone.

I asked if it's better, not on the obvious range

CountryBoy, how's the IQ between the lenses, do you have samples?
