All I have is my 50mm F/1.8 and my 70-200 F/4 non IS. I need a wide angle lens. It'd be general purpose, landscapes, a walk around basically.

Now here's my question.

Would you buy a wide angle prime to go with my 50mm? If so, which prime?

Or buy something like the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 and sell the 50mm 1.8?

My budget is around $400, but I'd like to keep it as cheap as possible. The canon 17-55 F/2.8 is out of my price range sadly.

35L is great. It is a great prime and works well for walk around. Otherwise, if you want a zoom, the 24-70 is great.

;)

I say go with either the 17-50 f/2.8 or a Sigma 30mm f/1,4 if you're daring enough to go with a prime for a walkaround; I did.

I wish I had the cash for that at the moment, haha.

Is the 30mm wide enough for your liking? That coupled with my 50mm wouldn't be a bad combo.

I don't mind getting a prime, I like my 50mm. (not saying I don't want to upgrade it)

I use the Canon 28mm 1.8 as my walk around and I really like it.

I think I am going to reduce my kit. 10-22, 28, 85, 70-200. It works well for me so far.

That's not a bad alternative either.

So either:
canon 28mm 1.8
sigma 30mm 1.4
tamron 17-50 2.8
Tokina 16-50 2.8

I second the Sigma 30mm, great walkaround prime. However, I would still take a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8, Sigma 24-70, or even my old Sigma 24-60 f/2.8 for the versatility over a prime.

I'm in the same boat, considering the Tamron 17-50 2.8 or the Tokina 16-50 2.8.

What about the Sigma 28-70 2.8? Anyone have any experience with it?

That's a possibility as well.
