Why didn't they replace the G7 with another G7?

The closest thing to an MX Revolution would be a M950: http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?item=MSELOG1692 (external link)

I think I have a G5 or G9 gaming mouse, whichever it is I have two of them, one for home and one for when I do contract work. Nice mice.

Hey all, having absolutely no luck with mice. I had a Logitech G7 which I loved, it died under warranty and so they gave me a Logitech MX revolution which I adjusted to and got to love, this too has died and they cannot get anymore (its through Harvey Norman) now none of the new Logitech ones seems to match the specs of the mx revolution? What other options are there that people recommend? This is very frustrating :(

You haven't been feeding them have you!
I just have a logitech laser mouse that came with my wireless skype keyboard. works fine.

Gamers didn't really take to the wireless that much and there is always some lag (although with the G7 it was practically unnoticeable) so there isn't a true replacement product.

I had a wireless mouse about five years ago, even just doing regular stuff the lag was annoying.

What particular specs are you looking for? On my desktop I have a Microsoft Wireless Laser 7000 which works well, apart from the recharging station, which frankly doesn't work at all (it has a AAA battery you can take out and charge separately though). Mouse is accurate and lag free for normal computing (don't really do games)

On my notebook I have a Microsoft Explorer Bluetrak mouse (the notebook version) which I absolutely LOVE. The only problem I have is with the receiver which I can't leave in the notebook - it has to be stowed under the mouse every time as it's too long to leave.

After a work bonus, I want to get a decent tripod/head combo. My el-cheapo just isn't up to the task now that i have heavier gear ($US45). Budget - probably up to about US$500-600..but can go higher if there is a real need to. Needs to support the 7D/1.4x TC/100-400 weight wise. Would like a head that enables me to do some panos if I wanted to (something I've wanted to get into).

Comments, suggestions....

Tripods are like women, everyone looks for the best set of legs but in the long term the right head is more important...

Legs - the Manfrotto range are widely recommended. I was never a tripod snob until I got (as a present) a carbon fibre Giottos. Believe me - those extra couple of kgs less makes a huge difference when it comes to decidign whether to pack your tripod or not! My old aluminium cheapo hasn't seen the light of day since. This is more of an issue if you are shooting a lot of remote landscapes etc.

Heads - the best ballhead you can afford. My next head will be an Acratech. Their GP ballhead can be flipped and used as a levelling base - handy if shooting panos is your thing.

You might want to look at an L bracket as well for panos.
