This one has great resolution compared to a lot of other ones I'm seeing in this thread. Is there a specific PP technique you are using? It might be pp/exporting for the win here. A lot of the BIF's look good but on my monitor they seem to lack a bit of detail. Yours is great.

I also noticed no exif, can you let us know the settings here? I need to replace a tele in the next few days.

Sorry for the late reply syntrix but here is the exif data for the above pic

Exposure Time = 1/320
F Number = F6.3
Focal Length = 229mm
ISO Speed Ratings = 400

The only PP i did on this photo was a slight crop and auto contrast in picasa then just exported the image. This i must say is one of my best photos produced from this lens even with a 40d would love to try it mounted on a 7D something with abit more resolution.

Those are all great Mark. But I realy like the nuthatch. You're killing me here. One more day.
P.S. I counted 29 Evening Grossbeaks at my feeder about a half hour ago. I didn't even get out the camera.

Another disappointing outing to Ottawa NWR and Magee Marsh. Hardly any birds, I guess it's too early.

But here are a couple of shots. Still, not much point in driving an hour and a half RT.

I've had my BIGMOS copy for about a week and there haven't been many bright days to judge it. I do seem notice the lens is turning out some consistently perhaps overexposed and unsaturated images on my 40D. I'm using a custom "Faithful" setting with just a little sharpening and saturation boost. Admittedly it hasn't been very colorful here in AK yet. Still lot's of white and grays but.... I don't think any of my camera settings are a factor.

I had my first opportunity to use the new Bigmos yesterday. So far I'm impressed. There is a learning curve to using it but not bad. I will go into more detail after a little more use. In the meen time, here's a few shots from yesterday.

Hi all
Using the Sigma 150-500mm lens, what settings do you use on the camera to get nice sharp photos?
What do you find the sweatspot to be of the lens in aperture setting?

Sweetspot: normally 1 stop down from wide open. At shorter focal lengths you may not even need to stop down, it's sharp enough. But at 500mm, f8 is my sweetspot.
Using a monopod is recommended I think. I also crank up the ISO (on my 7D) so I get a good fast shutter speed, but that manily depends on what I shoot (static or action). It's also good if you are knowledgeable in post processing to bring out the maximum from the lens.

Thanks for the reply and the tips gabebalazs.
I will do some trials this weekend. I do some post processing using Photoshop Elenments 8, but are still learning.

Thank you sir! I have a lot of experience riding bikes on the track, maybe I'm just partial to this great shot!
